Very little has been found for the life of this lady other than a possible admission entry for a Mary Ann Edwards into the Bethnal Licensed House on 22nd August 1874. This lady was discharged as ‘not improved’ on 4th May 1876, but what happened to her after this is unknown.
On 14th October 1902, ‘our’ Mary Ann Edwards was discharged from the Bethnal Green Workhouse and admitted to Horton Asylum in Epsom.
Her stay there was for only eight weeks before she died, aged 51, from an ‘old standing kidney disease with heart failure’ on 11th December 1902.
Her death certificate stated that she was the widow of Edwards unknown of Bethnal Green Workhouse.
Mary Ann was buried in grave 88 in the Horton Estate Cemetery on 17th December 1902.
