Copyright
If information is available in the public domain then this information may be used as a source.
Whilst certain certificate DESIGNS may be copyrighted, as in the certificate itself not the information, the core information itself is not covered by the same copyright.
Written works/stories are covered by copyright (covered for 70 years after the death of identifiable author or publication if latter occurs after death, JM Barrie’s Peter Pan being the exception to the rule).
Information relating to living individuals is NOT a copyright issue but rather you need to consider the Data Protection Act provisions and make sure you have their permission to publish. Publication of the details of living individuals without permission is prevented under the Data Protection Act.
Note that most documents we use from Ancestry are Crown Copyright – Ancestry/Findmypast/etc. do not OWN these documents at all. They use them under the same licence that FOHC use them.

Non Crown Copyright documents

Should any objection be raised to the use of any image or document, and permission cannot be sought then said image or document will or course be removed.
Photographs
Volunteers will often pull a photograph from the internet, we endeavour to always credit or acknowledge source of where it came from. If you notice an incorrect credit/source, please contact us and we’ll be happy to correct.
