Sometimes we just have to wait for more information to come to light to write their full story. Such is the case with Thomas Moss

b.1872-d.1902

Thomas Moss was admitted into Horton Hospital on 2 September 1902 where he later died on 30 October. He was buried on 5 November 1902 in grave 69 in the Horton Estate Cemetery.

The GRO Death Register recorded 1872 as his birth year, making him 30 years old when he died.

Unfortunately, it has not been possible to find where he was born, or who his family was.

T.M.

Both the 1891 and 1901 censuses have recorded a possible Thomas Moss by using just the initials T. M.

The 1891 Census taken in the Friern Barnet Asylum in Middlesex recorded a male lunatic patient as ‘T.M’ but no age or birthplace was recorded.

The 1901 Census taken in the London County Asylum in Banstead, Surrey, again recorded a male lunatic patient as ‘T.M’ with a birth year of 1872 but no birthplace.

It is known that when the Horton Hospital opened in 1902 that some patients from the London County Asylum in Banstead, were transferred there. Despite looking online for admission and discharge records, I am unable to ascertain that either census refer to the correct man.

Hopefully in the future, further records will become available, and we will be able to find more about Thomas Moss’ life.
