My deep interest in genealogy goes back to early childhood; I listened to the family stories, I asked questions and I kept notes, In one lunch hour during 6th form, I walked up a very steep hill to the local cemetery, determined to locate the grave of my great grandparents, which seemed to have been forgotten. One of the grounds staff let me look at the burial records...and the rest is history. I took over ownership of that grave recently – everyone should be remembered and their graves maintained.
When Kevin put out a request for researchers to start work on the 9000 buried in Horton Cemetery, I was more than happy to be involved. I started as a researcher then later I moved into helping with the publishing side of operations. I am now also a Trustee.
Horton Cemetery is more than an abandoned piece of land on the outskirts of Epsom. It represents our response to society and how we treat people in life and in death.
I love working with the Friends of Horton Cemetery, a brilliant team of volunteers and researchers…come and join us!
