According to the 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses Marie was born in France. I have not been able to confirm this. On each of these censuses Marie is described as a widow and a dressmaker.
In 1891 Marie was lodging with the Brittain family at 83, Chester Terrace, St George’s Hanover Square parish. William Brittain aged 68 was a cabinet maker and his wife Mary, also 68, had a boarder and two other lodgers.
At the time of the 1901 Census Marie had moved to Wandsworth, to 49, Haldon Road, living with the Croucher family. Mr Croucher is a gardener and his wife is not recorded with an occupation. The couple have a daughter and two sons living with them. Marie works on her ‘own account’ as a dressmaker at home.
By 1911, Marie was in the London County Council Asylum, Horton, Epsom. Her occupation is that of a dressmaker and she is a widow.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to identify Marie in connection to her husband yet.
She was admitted to Horton Asylum (Epileptic colony) on 3rd June 1907. She died there on 14th February 1918 and her cause of death was valvular disease of the heart. There was no post mortem.
Marie was buried on March 1st in Horton Cemetery in grave 1967a.
